Republican 6th Debate, January 14th 2015

Republican 6th Debate, January 14th 2015, SC, via Fox Business Network

ED:  Read the great comments via the transcripts listed below. We highlight top tier;
(others make truly excellent points, including Christie, Fiorina, and even Kasich.)
Trump increases his lead and may even ‘take’ Iowa; showing “13 hours” in Iowa.

Neil Cavuto and Maria Bartiromo were moderators for Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Carson,
Christie, J.Bush, and Ohio Gov John Kasich.  90-second answers and 30-sec rebuttals.

JOBS:   (picture shown)
Cruz: Let me start with the ten sailors captured by Iran; Obama sends $150BILLION.  “The next commander in chief is standing on this stage.”  Things are rosy in DC and Wall Street.   Fight for the working man.
Kasich:  [ED: We’ll minimize rhetoric of the minor hopefuls.]  “I did it; bla-bla-blah!”

GLOBAL EVENTS:
Christie:  I watch ‘story time’ with Barack Obama and it was different hearing from him.
J.Bush:  Obama’s alternative universe.   “Peace through Strength!” HRClinton = disaster;  FBI.
“She might be going back and forth between the White House and the court house.”
Rubio:  I would go a step further—she is disqualified from being commander in chief, with her illegal actions.  Also, she lied to the families.  Obama apologized ten separate times around the world.  When I’m president of the United States, we are going to win the war against ISIS.  If we capture them, we will bring them to Git’Mo and find out everything that they know.
Carson:  [Joke about waking him up]  Obama needs to understand war is different now:  dirty bombs, internet cyber attacks, and potential electric grid attacks. If we give our powerful Military a mission and don’t tie their hands, they can get it accomplished.

REFUGEES:
Trump:  It’s not fear in Terror—it’s reality.  Paris had the strictest gun control, now with 130 killed. It could be the great Trojan Horse.  Very few women and children, just strong powerful men coming in.  Look at the couple that came in.  We are $19TRILLION dollars in debt.  We can’t just let them in.

NYTIMES reported $1million for your campaign:
Cruz: Thanks for bringing up their hit peace.  Unlike Hillary Clinton I didn’t have millions in the bank.  My opponent had $200million and we put up our own money.  Both of our filings were public and, yes, I did make a mistake on one of the filings.  But if that is the best The NYTimes has, they had better go back to the well.

Canadian born:
Cruz:  Glad we are focusing on the important topics of the evening.  Trump said he had his lawyers look at this from every angle and there was nothing there.  The Constitution hasn’t changed.  Facts in the law include a citizen who has a child abroad, soldiers, and Mormon missionary parents of Mitt Romney.  Donald’s mother was born in Scotland.  [Trump: But I was born here.]  I’m not going to use your mother against you. The most important thing is who is best qualified to be commander in chief.
Trump:  As you know Ted, I am beating you in the polls.  I was all for you until you misrepresented the polls.  Lawrence Tribe of Harvard questions one who isn’t born on our soul.  [Booing when Trump says he won’t choose Cruz for VP.]  You should go out and get a declarative judgement.   [Smiling, Trump says he is doing better now and has a 4% chance.]  Democrats are going to bring a lawsuit; and you have to have certainty.  You cannot have a question-mark hanging over your head.
Cruz:  Larry Tribe represented Algore in Florida, etc. and the Clintons.
Rubio:  Since I was mentioned let me get back to [Obama weakening America.]  When I become president of the United States, I’m getting rid of his illegal executive actions and repeal Obamacare.

Nikki Haley [cheers] was referring to you:
Trump:  Nikki, wherever you are sitting, we are friends.  I will gladly accept the mantle of being angry.  Our country is being run by incompetent people.  She said the truth.  I didn’t find it offensive at all.

Nasty Words:
Rubio:  We have a serious problem with Obama undermining the Constitution.  Christie supports Common Core, and gun control.  Christie agrees with Obama’s agenda and wrote a check for Planned Parenthood.
Christie:  Rubio criticized J.Bush for being a Bush.  Let’s get the facts straight. [details.]
J.Bush:  My name was mentioned;  we need to unite behind the nominee.
Carson:  I was mentioned too (“Moderator said everybody.”)  We have to stop damaging each other.  This nation is over if Democrats win the WH and get more Liberals on the Supreme Court.

Bernie Sanders Socialism:
Kasich:  I can promise you he is not going to be POTUS.

Bill Clinton:
Carson:  There is no question we should be able to look at past behavior, but here’s the real issue:  Do Americans still have standards and values?  We have race wars, income wars, age wars, and gender wars.  Our strength is in our unity.  Where have we gone?  It did not come from our Judeo-Christian roots.  We need to recognize there is right and wrong.  Stand up for what we believe in.

Gun control:
J.Bush:  First of all, I recognize Nikki Haley and those killed in SC, counting on the Grace of God.
Trump:  I am a Second Amendment guy.  [Examples]  What Jeb said is correct: mental health problem.
Rubio: The Second Amendment is not an option.  This Adm undermines the Constitution.  ISIS and terrorists do not get their guns from a gun show.  Every answer that Barack Obama has, is gun control.  When he ran [before], he referred to gun-clingers and Bible-thumpers.
Christie:  Be concerned about a dictator.  Founding Fathers thought it important. Obama is a petulant child—I hope he is watching:  We are not against you, we are against your policies.
Cruz:  The answer is simple: you prosecute criminals.  Obama launched Fast and Furious.  Etc.

NY Values:
Cruz:  Most people know exactly know what ‘New York values are’. [Maria B says she is from NY] You are from NY and so may not:
listen, there are many, many wonderful, wonderful working men and women in the state of New York. But everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro- gay-marriage, focus around money and the media.
And -- and I would note indeed, the reason I said that is I was asked -- my friend Donald has taken to it as (ph) advance playing Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA", and I was asked what I thought of that.
And I said, "well, if he wanted to play a song, maybe he could play, 'New York, New York'?" And -- and -- you know, the concept of New York values is not that complicated to figure out.
Not too many years ago, Donald did a long interview with Tim Russert. And in that interview, he explained his views on a whole host of issues that were very, very different from the views he's describing now.
And his explanation -- he said, "look, I'm from New York, that's what we believe in New York. Those aren't Iowa values, but this is what we believe in New York." And so that was his explanation.
And -- and I guess I can -- can frame it another way. Not a lot of conservatives come out of Manhattan. I'm just saying.   (LAUGHTER)

[With this, the great debater Ted Cruz won the debate; until Donald Trump spoke and won it back; but Trump did not answer the basic question of his own NY values, which apparently have switched.]
